HUMOR HILFT HEILEN – Interim results of the partnership

June 2023 saw the launch of a three-year joint project between HUMOR HILFT HEILEN (HHH), the children's center at EvKB in Bielefeld, and building automation experts Kieback&Peter. All nursing staff at the children's hospital can take part in humor workshops run by the foundation, which strengthen team spirit and improve interactions with patients. Kieback&Peter ensures safe building technology and promotes the workshops through financial support.
Around 300 people are trained in humor
As part of the joint project, a total of around 300 people at the Children's Center of the Evangelical Hospital Bethel in Bielefeld will be trained in “humor as a resource.” Within the framework of the project, all nursing staff and practical instructors at the Children's Center will have the opportunity to participate in a humor workshop.
The aim of the project is to train all nursing staff from the outset in the new children's center, which will be built in 2023, with regard to “humor as a resource.” Katja Kemnade, humor trainer and member of the team of technical managers for humor workshops at HUMOR HILFT HEILEN, has already trained practical instructors at the Bethel Children's Center and a total of 120 employees of the Children's Center.
In September, another workshop for trainees took place at the children's center. “The workshops are a valuable opportunity for our trainees and nursing staff. They gain a new perspective on their work through the input they receive. The feedback has been consistently positive,” reports Phoebe Koch, nursing manager at the children's center.

"At the Bethel Children's Center, we can help in two ways: First, our building automation system ensures that all technical processes—from ventilation, heating, and cooling to air conditioning in patient rooms—work together perfectly.
Second, we work with HUMOR HILFT HEILEN to strengthen the social climate in nursing care. We are delighted that many nursing professionals have already benefited from the workshops, allowing us to focus equally on technology and people."
Another workshop with trainees from Kieback&Peter

"It is very important to us to support workshops that empower nursing professionals at all levels, from trainees to practical instructors. Humor promotes resilience and helps prevent burnout. That's why we also had two of our own trainees participate.
The aspiring electronics technicians specializing in automation technology not only gained exciting insights into the special requirements of nursing training, but also took away practical ideas on resilience and self-care—skills that will help them develop healthily in a dynamic working environment," says Carsten Meyer, sales engineer at Kieback&Peter.
Humor coach Katja Kemnade talks about partnership

"I am delighted to be involved in such a meaningful project. It's great to see an entire clinic—right from the start—using humor at all levels of care.
And the fact that the humor workshops have been approved and financially supported by a local company is a wonderful example of collaborative, regional, and meaningful commitment," says Katja Kemnade happily.
